Prisoners formed in 1977 in Huddersfield ,
England at the height of the UK punk movement. During the
early days, the band enjoyed success selling many copies of
the original “Release” album. Prisoners played with many top
name acts such as, The Damned, Adam & the Ants,
Penetration, The Fall, Generation X and Crass.

In 2005, the Huddersfield Examiner ran an
article with a picture from 1977, posing the question, “does
anyone remember these guys?”. After many responses to the
newspaper press office, a follow-up article was written,
prompting a possible reunion. Several weeks of investigation
later, the original members were located around the world and,
eventually a reunion was scheduled.

Roll the clock forward to 2006 and Prisoners
have returned, older, yes, of course, but with musical
maturity, producing alternative rock music which, while
acknowledging the influences of 1977, sounds truly
contemporary, powerful, fresh and exciting.

Prisoners have a transatlantic link, their
guitarist Chris “Mark” Lawton lives in Atlanta, Georgia and
the band now regularly criss-cross Continents to be together
and write and record. The latest Prisoners album,
“Re-Released”, which was recorded at HD1 Studios in June 2006,
is scheduled for release in the United States on July 10 th
and the band will be performing live in Atlanta in the next
few months to promote the record.

Although Prisoners are currently writing new
material (they can’t seem to stop!) the band are focussing on
live performances, currently planning the “Comeback Gig of The
Millennium”, well at least that’s how it’s being described by
both the old fans and new who are quite obviously as excited
as Prisoners themselves, to be back on the crest of the New
Wave!
